Name/Nickname: Spencer Jesse Owens
Age: 17
Gender: Male Type Humanoid
Brief physical description: 5'11" and still growing, will be 6'.5". His hair is dark brown and wavy. It is down to about mid neck and his bangs fall in front of his eyes. He pushes his hair so it's not on top of his ears. His eyes are gray-green and a little deep set. He has dark rings under his eyes because of his sleep deprivation. His build is average, not crazy skinny and not obese. His skin is fair but not pale.
Is your character well-liked? Does he or she have many friends or acquaintances?
He doesn't have many friends. He's paranoid and tends to avoid most people and would much rather be by himself anyway. His current best friend is a girl from his new school named Gisela. For some reason he seems to trust her a lot. Also, his best non-human friend is Harvey, his rat. Harvey's a female...she was given to Spencer as a gift from one of his therapists.
Outside activities?
He likes anywhere high up so he likes climbing trees. They feel like an escape and he can be found sitting an drawing in them when the weather is nice enough. Apart from that he's pretty much a hermit. Going out only when he really needs to.
What kind of work does your character do?
He isn't employed at the moment. He attends school at a special boarding school for troubled teens and he plans on becoming an illustrator or an animator. Anything creative is his dream. However, having a job is to be determined by his doctors if he is "stable" enough to have a regular job. He's currently monitored by school nurses and given his medication: for his paranoia/hallucinations, heart medication, and before bed, sleeping pills.
Parents occupations?
His father is a CPA and his mom stays at home to maintain the house. She raised Spencer and is still looking after his younger brother. She never liked all the different medications they put Spencer on but didn't say anything trusting the doctors knew what they were doing.
Married/single/dating/other:
Single at the moment. He will warm up to people but the thought of completely committing to someone at the moment is too much to ask to him. He's always on defense against the "things". Anyone at all could be one of them in disguise so he tries to be friendly but at a safe distance.
Family size:
4 people in his immediate family. his extended family has distanced themselves from the family because they feel Spencer is a disgrace to the family because of his troubles and behavior.
Who is your character closest to in the family and why?
His little brother.
Favourite relative outside immediate family:
none, they rarely associate with the family so he's not close to any of them let alone the people he sees everyday for that matter.
Race/species/ethnicity:
EnglishxGerman and some other smaller things but he is predominantly English and German.
Religion:
Religion is not a big factor in who he is so he doesn't think much about it. He'd like to believe there is some sort of higher being that can end his troubles but he doesn't call that religion. He thinks of it more to comfort himself when things are particularly bad.
Favourite place to go:
Staying in his dorm eating pizza and watching foreign films. It's safe and enclosed there so he feels very comfortable there.
Favourite sound:
Any kind of music. He's rarely without his music. It lets him tune out anything that's bothering him as well as inspires what he's drawing when he's not drawing the "things". He's fond of The Who and Frank Zappa.
Favourite smell:
He doesn't have a favorite smell to speak of. As long as the smell is not totally offensive like say a stink bomb he doesn't care.
Favourite clothes to wear:
T-shirts with interesting sayings and jeans that are a little to big are a must. His shoes go between sneakers of many different brands to hiking boots. He also has a large amount of sweatshirts. His favorite is his gray and black one with the ripped sleeves and smiley face on it. He also wears these ratty fingerless black leather gloves he found while rummaging through a dumpster. You never know what sort of intersting things you'll find.
Favourite colour:
He's fond of greens and indigo for some reason.
Least favourite colour:
Orange, he doesn't know why but the color just doesn't appeal to him. He much prefers cooler colors.
Hobbies:
Drawing, spray painting, listening to music, collecting foreign films as well as 1970s films, avoiding the "things".
Beliefs/motivations/values:
His motivation is to some day make all the "things" leave him alone and to live long enough to do that. He doesn't really understand his heart condition but he knows that whenever he's afraid, which is usually when the "things" are around that his heart races and he feels light headed.
Superstitions:
None really. The "things" are real to him so I don't believe that would count as a superstition or not. As a general rule though he doesn't put much stock into superstitions.
What makes him or her angry?
All the pills he's forced to take, when people tell him the "things" are just in his head", running out of paper, broken pencil lead, nasty sandwiches, when someone eats the last piece of pizza without telling him.
How does he or she act when they get angry?
Depends on the severity. He will either hide himself away to draw or in extreme cases he gets violent and temperamental.
What annoys him/her?
The small "things". They're not scary but man are they bothersome. Always creeping around, sitting on his head, whispering things into his ears.
When did he or she last cry, and why?
About a week ago. The nurse was trying to give him his pills and he got frustrated that she wouldn't leave him alone and started shouting about how "she wasnt listening" that those pills would kill him and that he was sick and tired of being called crazy. He was like this for practically an hour before he stopped shouting and practically crumpled to the floor and just wept. The nurse kept him over night for observation and of course sedated him and gave him his medication.
Strengths:
Arts, is surprisingly flexible, he can find irony in a lot of things.
Weaknesses/Flaws:
His heart, extreme paranoia, lack of sleep.
Pets:
Pet rat Harvey
Books he or she reads:
He'll pick up and read just about anything. What he reads also influences what he draws. The tone of the story, enviornements etc. He can take inspiration from practically anything he sees, hears, tastes, smells, or touches.
Favourite television shows:
The movies on Turner Classic Movies and cartoons.
Favourite radio station:
104.3, 105.5 a lot of The Who and bands like that.
Favourite time of day:
Sunrise, night is finally coming to an end. The sun has returned to keep the "things" at bay. It's a very comforting thing to see the sun rising, chasing away the fears.
Routine at night:
Sit up and draw/listen to music/whatever and if they manage to slip him the meds fall into a deep medicine enduced sleep.
What does he or she wear to bed?
Flannel pants
Favourite food:
PIZZA!!! any kind! Any topping!! PIZZA, PIZZA, PIZZA!!!
Most hated food:
Nothing. He likes food too much XD
Sleep patterns/dreams:
Rarely gets a good nights sleep, medication gives him a deep sleep but that does nothing for him since he'll find some way to stay up. His dreams though generally consist of hordes of things coming for him, biting at his legs as he runs, and whispering things to him. Hes scared to death of those dreams.
Worst enemy:
The "things"!!!! Theyre horrible beasts! Youd hate them too.
Best gift ever received:
Harvey, that rat is like his life. He likes that one therapist the most. He actually let Spencer talk and seemed to listen unlike the others that just ran tests and prescribed more and more pills.
Worst gift ever received:
He can't recall and particularly horrible gifts.
Handwriting:
Very sketching and tends to run together. Not many curves. Very angular. All that gentle line stuff is reserved for pictures.
Idea of a fun evening:
Movie night! With himself...he might think of inviting Gisela to one of these some time.
Family rituals:
None really, dinner together at the end of the day and that was about it. He 's glad to be away from his family. It bored him when he was living with them.
What makes him or her scared or nervous? How do they react?
The "things", being forced into doing something he strongly wishes not to. He will become violent and loud. He has injured people on some occasions.
Health:
Mentally he is unstable with extreme paranoia and insomnia. It really takes a toll on his peace of mind to feel like he always has to watch his back.
As for physical health he is generally healthy except for the fact that he has a bad heart. His heart is weak as it is but his paranoia doesn't help. If he's frightened his heart beats faster than a normal person's and it takes his heart longer to slow down. Sometimes it doesn't slow down it doesn't beat because it's going so fast it vibrates which doesn't pump blood and can be fatal. Yes, he can technically be scared to death. This can also happen at night if he sleeps and has a particularly bad nightmare. Theyve had to resuscitate him a few times. He doesnt remember these episodes though.
Things he or she hopes for but may never have:
To not be considered unstable and able to function just like everyone else in society without the aid of medication.
Does he or she travel? Where to?
Not really. He enjoys staying put. He likes familiar surroundings. The farthest he's traveled recently was to school.
Favourite type of music:
The Who, Frank Zappa, stuff like that.
Best memory:
Getting Harvey. Such a cute rat and just for him.
Clubs/organizations:
None
Political organization:
He doesn't know squat about politics and he doesn't care. It's just not a big thing for him.
Causes/passions:
LIVE TO SEE ANOTHER DAY!!!
Awards/honours:
A few prizes in art shows.
Favourite toy as a child? Do they still have it?
A stuffed bear that protects him. He keeps it at the end of his bead. The thing is practically falling apart.
Room or housewhat is it like?
A small dorm with a bed and small TV and a microwave. He has movie posters and band posters up on his walls. A desk for drawing and stuff like that and a laptop which is mostly a paperweight because he hardly uses it. His desk is cluttered with drawings and you might be able to find homework in there somewhere. He also has this lovely geode that is used as a paperweight. His bad is simple with flannel sheets and a white comforter. It looks nice because he hardly uses it.
Car or transportation they use:
Hes not supposed to drive but hes got an old black and blue bike he uses from time to time. However he much prefers to walk around than use his bike.
Has he or she ever broken the law?
Trespassing, graffiti....he's monitored more closely now though. He doesnt do that anymore mostly because of the monitoring. It was fun while it lasted though.
Ambitions:
Get a job doing what he loves to do, drawing and creating things. Anything of that nature.
What does he or she do to relax?
Draw and listen to music. It does wonders for him.
Best friend (s): Gisela and Harvey
How does he or she walk and talk?
Slouches as he walks and he tends to mumble though when he's more comfortable he is a good speaker. He just doesn't do that much so...
Describe him or her intellectually:
Intelligent but he lacks the ability to focus. Hard for him to take tests because of this. You'd think he was stupid but he's not. He needs something to really interest him for him to be able to focus and having teachers who arent particularly engaging makes this hard for Spencer.
What would he or she change about themselves?
He actually likes himself. All he wants to change is being able to see and feel the things.
Has he or she ever been in love?
Not yet. Hes yet to trust anyone that much or have that much faith in a person.
Idols and heroes:
FRANK ZAPPA!!!!
What or who is he or she living for?
No one in particular. Mostly himself Id say, the will to live is strong in this one. XD
Why is he or she in your story?
Just one of the troubled kids

Chief: Dexter, have you been smoking the confiscated drugs again? You know we need those for evidence right?
Dexter: Chief, let me explain something to you. If you have 10 lbs. of crack and you smoke 2 oz...you still have10 lbs. of crack.

"You get a bottle of Vodka. Drink a third of it. Put it down. Do two lines of crack. Drink another third of the vodka. Put it down. Take a smoke. Drink the last of the vodka. Cry till you can't cry no more. Then you sleep. Problem solved."
The bread and strawberries are much appreciated :3
